Peebles Square- Community Meeting Held 9/26/06

Reviwing Project at Community MeetingTuesday evening, September 26, a public community meeting was held at the Church of the Nazarene to gather initial public input for the Peebles Square affordable housing redevelopment project that is being funded through various grants and programs. The community had the opportunity to meet with Melana Mears of Action Housing, a non-profit organization who is developing the Peebles Square area in a joint effort with Hosanna House, as well as with the architect firm hired for the project- Rothschild Doyno Architects. Also present was Jason Vrabel a consultant on the project from Community Design Center of Pittsburgh.

Building to be removed at corner of Trenton and SouthKen Doyno, Melana Mears, and Jason Vrabel started the meeting by fielding the community participants’ questions regarding the project.

Ken Doyno then led everyone in a walking tour of the site, making comments and soliciting input from the community members. Joining the aproximately 35 community members in the tour was several members of Wilkinsburg Council, the Mayor of Wilkinsburg, and various other local officials.

Ross Street on the Walking TourAfterwards, the group returned to the meeting hall to conclude with a question and answer session, and a facilitated discussion around community concerns, needs, and desires for the project.

Future community meetings will be announced so that the community may see and participate in the process.
