How to Add Value to Your Home and Community

Many homeowners may be aware that their home is in need of repair or enhancement, but may not know where to turn for help with design, financing, energy efficiency, or construction. Working in collaboration, the Greater Park Place Neighborhood Association, Point Breeze Planning & Development, Regent Square Civic Association, and Whitney Park Neighbors are hosting the Renovation Resources Workshop – how to add value to your home and community, a one-day workshop on March 8th, 1-3 PM at the Waverly Church, S. Braddock and Forbes, with the goal of highlighting local resources available to help homeowners pursue affordable home renovations that result in increased value.

The workshop will feature presentations by several area organizations that offer a variety of renovation planning and financing services for homeowners. The Community Design Center of Pittsburgh will highlight its RenPlanSM program which features affordable and subsidized renovation planning consultations with design professionals, and illustrates how investing in design can significantly increase value of both the home and the neighborhood. Also on hand at the workshop will be home renovation funding and financial consulting resources, such as the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) and Neighborhood Housing Services (NHS), as well as energy efficiency consultants such as Rob Hosken RA, LEED, AP of Building Performance Architecture.

After hearing about the various renovation resources and options available to homeowners, workshop participants will have the opportunity to mix and mingle with the presenters, and sign up for services that are of interest. The above article is decribing the recent controversy around the large-scale plans for the city to remove aproximately 3000 trees. This hit the news in December as well.

GPPNA is canceling their street tree meeting on Thursday 1/10/08 so that it does not conflict with the meeting to discuss this issue being held in Squirel Hill. Our guest speaker will be occupied at that meeting instead.

The meeting on the street tree removals will be held Thursday at 7pm, 1/10/08 at the Children’s Institute in Squirel Hill.
