Last year was the first for the Swissvale Farmers Market. In the first year, it received a prestigious award from the Pittsburgh A-List: The Best Farmers Market in Pittsburgh. The market is opening this Saturday, May 9, 2015. Located across from the CVS Plaza, on Church Street between South Braddock Avenue and Monogahela Street, hours are from 9:00 AM, to 1:00 PM. This year there are a number of new participants, including two new Pennsylvania farms, various artisans, and food vendors. Produce that is available in May includes leafy, or early root vegetables such as cabbage, lettuce, onions, peas, radishes and spinach. EBT/SNAP benefits will be accepted on site through the Fresh Access program by Just Harvest.
On opening day, a number of special events will be featured, including music, face painting, and “chair massage” performed by Michelle J. The kickoff is going to be a great event! It is combined with the “Swissvale Stroll,” a yearly event in the community. The event is an opportunity for residents and business owners to meet and greet, and to celebrate the revitalization and growth of Swissvale. Part of Church Street will be closed, allowing biusiness owners to set up tents and table for the Stroll.
Member of the Park Place community can support our neighbors and friends in Swissvale by attending the opening event, and remembering the Farmers Market is open every Saturday, from9:00 AM to 1:00 PM through the end of October! As the season progresses, more and more produce, plants and products will be available!
